The UK 100 called to open +29 points at 7,493. The UK 100 looks set to continue its strong start to the week this morning coming on the back of US markets making strong gains yesterday after soft jobs vacancy figures and a fall in consumer confidence reduced the pressure on the US central bank to increase interest rates further. The Dow Jones was up 0.9%, the S&P up 1.5% and the Nasdaq up 1.7%. The gains extended to Asian markets where the Nikkei 225 rose 0.4% and the Hang Seng rose 0.5%. In China, the Shanghai Composite was up 0.1%.
Anglo American’s cycle 7 rough diamond sales value for De Beers came in at $370m vs $638m YoY.
Direct Line hires Adam Winslow as their new CEO who is expected to join in Q1 2024.
Prudential posted a 3.6% rise in H1 operating profit as they benefited from a rebound in Chinese investors buying insurance products in Hong Kong, its key revenue centre. Their adjusted H1 operating profit was $1.46bn, up from $1.41bn in the same period a year earlier. Their annualised premium equivalent (APE) sales rose 37% to $3bn on a stronger pickup in sales from Chinese mainland visitors to Hong Kong.
