Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +37 points at 7489.  The UK 100 looks set to open higher today taking heart from a fall in the rate of growth of shop price inflation and news that China is on course to hits its 5% economic growth target, cooling recent interest rate concerns.  Asian markets were mixed.  In Tokyo, the Nikkei index was down 0.5%. In China, the Shanghai Composite was up 1.3%, while the Hang Seng index in Hong Kong was up 2.0%.   On Wall Street yesterday, The S&P 500 was down around 0.4%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average was roughly flat. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite led the way down, dropping over 1%.

GlaxoSmithKline gets “fast track” designation from US FDA for potential gonorrhoea vaccine.

 

 

JD Sports expects their headline profit before tax and adjusted items to be in line with consensus. They expect their FY24 adjusted pretax profit to be in line with consensus of £1.04bn. They state that moderation of sales growth in may was in line with management expectations.

 

 

Johnson Matthey targets high single digit growth in short-term for catalyst technologies.

 

 

PZ Cussons says devaluation of Nigerian currency may impact FY24 results. They see FY revenue growth of 6% as profits are on track.

 

 

Telecom Plus are on track to achieve medium-term target of welcoming 1m new customers.
