Equities are mixed at the halfway stage, with mainland European markets outperforming the UK, and US futures pointing towards another positive open this afternoon. A positive lead from both US and Asian markets has failed to put fresh wind in the UK 100 ‘s sales – despite briefly trading a fresh intraday high at the open – leaving the UK’s blue chip index hovering at yesterday’s record closing mark. European equities outperform thanks to a generally positive round of Services PMI prints, while US equities, riding a fresh wave of Tech sector optimism, look set to build on last night’s trifecta of record closing highs.
The UK UK Index is just offside as losses for defensive exporters RB, DGE & BATS, Pharmaceuticals (weaker USD) and RIO overpower gains for Oilers, Banks and Miners (ex-RIO; commodities stronger on positive China data) and CRH.
Germany’s DAX easily outperforms as unemployment falls to a record low and macro data impresses, helping largest weighted stock Siemens to power the index higher, helped by Deutsche Boerse, Munich Re, Banks and Adidas, while Utilities offer minimal drag.
The UK Index 100 is maintaining its December uptrend, holding above intersecting support at 7670. The DAX 30 is extending its bounce from the floor of its November falling channel, testing 13100 intersecting resistance. Dow Jones Futures are continuing in their sharp rising channel, knocking on the door of 25k. Gold is struggling at its $1314 channel ceiling.
