Index Focus - 24 November 2016

Equities are mixed again today with stateside traders otherwise engaged for Thanksgiving, having left Wall St at fresh record high last night. The UK’s UK Index is just offside this morning, held back by an interesting mix of Utilities (NG), Telcos (VOD, BT), Miners  (BLT) and Banks (HSBC) while at the other end Healthcare (SHP, GSK) and Oil (BP, RDS) do their best to help. The German DAX is at breakeven persistent USD strength/EUR weakness helping its big exporting members (VW, BASF, BMW, BAY) offset weakness in Banks (CBK), Materials (HEI) Tech (IFX) and Media (PSM). Wall St futures are posting small gains.

The  UK 100  has made another bounce off 3-week rising support at 6790. The DAX 30 sits mid-way between the boundaries of its 10600-10780 2-week sideways range. Dow Jones Futures at 19100 remain around all-time highs with the  compass still pointing north. Gold has broken below $1200 on account of persistent USD strength and lack of safehaven interest.

Where next?
