UK 100 called to open 15-20 points lower this morning following losses seen in US and Asian markets overnight. The Fed last night showed limited support stimulus which led to the Dow Jones closing down around 49 points at 12,605. In Asia, the Hang Seng closed at 19,110 down 310 points whilst the Nikkei was down around 115 points at 8,735

Overnight Australian jobs data disappointed causing the AUS decline across the board with AUD/USD slipping below the 1.02 handle. With the Bank of Japan keeping rates unchanged as expected and added no stimulus it caused the USD/JPY to hit a high of 79.95. The BOJ revised FY2012/13 GDP forecast to 2.2%. Over in China a senior Chinese government economist said that China’s economic growth should rebound in the second half of 2012 with GDP growth around 8%. Looking at the US the dollar rose strongly against major currencies on Wednesday as minutes of last month’s Federal Reserve meeting showed further asset-buying was not being considered for now and would only be if US economic conditions deteriorated. EUR/USD skidded to a two-year low of $1.2211 following the minutes before briefly rebounding.

Crude oil futures rose 2.3 per cent on Wednesday as weekly US oil inventory showed a bigger than expected draw on crude supplies. US Light Crude gained $1.90 to settle at $85.81, whilst Brent crude climbed $2.26 per barrel to settle at $100.23. Gold meanwhile finished slightly in the red at $1575 during a choppy trading session.
