Movers & Shakers - 3 February 2014

The below stocks have been identified as having potential to register bigger than normal share price moves (up or down) today based on the news cited

Randgold Resources (RRS.L) – Produced record amounts of gold last year, but a lower gold price meant earnings were below analyst expectations. Posted profit of $325.7m on revenue of $1.27bn for 2013, below analysts’ estimates of profit $365m from revenue of $1.2bn. A 17% fall in the average gold price had hit profits, but that a 3% reduction in cash costs for the year had gone some way to offsetting the lower price. Production in 2014 is expected to increase by between 25%-30%.Closing Price 4193.00p (Reuters)

Ryanair (RYA.L) – Posted €35m loss for Q3 as it discounted tickets to boost passenger numbers, but management said intense price competition in Europe was easing. Entirely due to a 9% fall in average fares and weaker sterling. The airline’s profit forecast for the year remains unchanged at €500-€520m. Closing Price 6.31p (Reuters)

Lloyds (LLOY.L) is preparing a new offer of shares to the public and is in discussions with regulators over resuming dividend payments in the second half of 2014. It is aiming for a dividend pay out ratio in the medium term of at least 50% of sustainable earnings. Closing Price 83.30p (Reuters)

Rexam (REX.L) – It had received a binding offer of $805m in cash for its healthcare business from a private equity firm and planned to use the proceeds of the sale to return £450m to shareholders from the sale. Closing Price 493.00p (Reuters)

BHP Billiton (BLT.L) Rio Tinto (RIO.L) Anglo American (AAL.L) Antofagasta (ANTO.L) – China official nonmanufacturing PMI fell to 53.4 in January from 54.6 in December, the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing. Closing Price 1795.50p 3243.50p 1436p 850.50p respectively (Reuters)
