Royal Bank Scotland (RBS.L) Announced pre-tax loss of £634M for Q3. Set aside another £250M for mis-selling of PPI claims. Will create an internal “bad bank” to manage the run-down of its riskiest assets after the government stopped short of ordering a full break up. Internal restructuring will free up between £10-11bn of capital, leaving it better placed to lend. Closing Price 365.54p (Reuters)

Meggitt (MGGT.L) Lowered its full-year revenue. Said on Friday it now expects to report 2013 revenue growth in the low single digits. The company also said it had identified a “raw material supply issue” and that it had put £20M aside to account for the expected cost of rectifying the problem. Closing Price 570.92p (Reuters)

Direct Line (DLG.L) Operating profit of £131.2M for the third quarter, up 6.1%, Cost saving programmes progressing well and on track to meet target to reduce cost base to about £1bn in 2014. Interim dividend 4 pence per share. Closing Price 224.88p (Reuters)

Vodafone (VOD.L) – AT&T Inc.  executives are laying the groundwork internally for a potential takeover of Vodafone Group  next year, mapping out a strategy for a complex deal with Europe’s largest mobile carrier, people familiar with the situation said. Closing Price 224.50p (BusinessWeek)

Rio Tinto (RIO.L), BHP Billiton (BLT.L), Anglo American (AAL.L), Glencore Xstrata (GLEN.L) – China’s manufacturing activity grew at its fastest pace in 18 months in October, adding to signs of a recovery in the world’s second-largest economy. The official Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), a gauge of the sector’s health, rose to 51.4 from 51.1 in September.
