Barclays (BARC.L) – Profits fell 26% Q3 from Q3 2012 after earnings at its investment bank more than halved due to a slowdown in capital markets. Underlying pretax profit of £1.4bn for Q3, down from £1.9bn a year ago but above an average forecast of £1.25bn. Common equity Tier 1 capital ratio under full Basel rules improved to an estimated 9.6% including the £5.8bn it raised in a rights issue last month. Closing Price 266.05p (Reuters)
Next (NXT.L) – Expected a 2013-14 pretax profit of £650-680m. The firm was previously guiding to pretax profit of £635-675m. Sales rose 4.3% in the 13 weeks to Oct. 26 – an acceleration from growth of 2.3% in the first half and just above the firm’s second half guidance range of up 1-4%. Closing Price 5205.00p (Reuters)
Standard Life (SL.L) – Posted a 20% increase in sales of long term savings products during Q3 as it flagged an expected boost from the introduction of automatic enrolment of UK employees to company pension schemes. Said it has a “strong” pipeline of secured new corporate business. New business for long term savings was £17.3bn during the nine months to September 30. Closing Price 304.00p (Reuters)
African Barrick Gold (ABG.L) – Said it would exceed its annual production target and was on track with a cost cutting plan, giving hope that the company’s new boss is starting to turn the company around. It would beat the upper end of its 600,000 ounce production range. July output would be at the upper end of the 540,000 to 600,000 ounce guidance. Closing Price 170.10p (Reuters)
