UK 100 called to open +10pts, but down off overnight highs and remaining in 1-week trading range, with macro data limited to UK house prices on account of Japanese markets being closed for Marine Day.

Opening calls are off their highs due to downbeat weekend comments from Chinese Premier Wen, warning on the nation’s economic rebound following the poor GDP figures. In addition to the pressure of last week on Germany’s delay to the region’s new bailout fund, the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), Ratings agency Moody’s has said that the delay is a negative for the ratings of all Eurozone nations.

Today, US retail data always a focus given the nation’s importance with figures out today along with New York manufacturing data and US Business Inventories. The IMF also publishes its updates on Global Growth at 3pm and it is expected to reverse its April upgrades after the events of the last quarter.

The rest of the week, macro data likely focused on inflation with concerns over world growth having been the dominant theme of late. Data likely to show a continued tapering of inflationary pressure as global demand sees energy commodity prices wane. European figures today, UK on Tuesday. German ZEW surveys always generate interest (Tuesday). UK unemployment on Wednesday, along with US Housing.  More Retail data on Thursday, this time from the UK, along with the US leading indicator.

In FX and Commodities, GBP/EUR continues its breakout from another bullish flag pattern. USD/JPY remains under pressure. GBP/USD off its overnight and 1-week highs, as is EUR/USD. The stronger US Dollar is keeping a lid on the price of Gold which is off its highs of $1595.
